THE TEMPEST is a visually stunning production of Shakespeare’s famous play, adapted by Julie Taymor. The movie pretty much follows the original play, but the protagonist, Prospero the magician and alchemist, is turned from a man into a woman, Prospera, played by Helen Mirren. The Tempest has never been one of my favorite Shakespeare plays, as it wanders around a LOT and I've always been extremely uncomfortable with Prospero's treatment of those around him, but this production tells the story well and brings out the humor throughout.
